MB - Matt Blackwood
CP- Cam Pinkerton

MB - Who came up with the bands name?

CP - My brother, Kris, came up with it.

MB - What drummers are your main influences?

CP - Um, Doc (Vader), Flo (Cryptopsy), Pete Sandoval (Morbid Angel),
maybe Dave Lombardo a little bit, his fill style.

MB - What do you think of today's underground music scene?

CP - I think it is pretty healthy for the most part. Lots of bands, zines, distros,
and most importantly, fans. Fans that write to bands and buy demos is
what keeps it going, people like you, Matt.

MB - What inspires you to keep playing?

CP - I guess just a personal desire to do it, to keep getting better and faster.

MB - What were the bands thoughts going into the new record?

CP - We were just concentrating on getting everything done; we had a VERY limited
budget so obviously financial issues were on our mind, which is not a good thing
I suppose, when you're trying to do an album.

MB - What is the best show you have played?

CP - We played a show in Gulfport, Mississippi at a place called Pat n' Nicks, it was brutal as hell.

MB - If you could pick one band to tour with who would it be?

CP - That's a hard question because there are so many cool bands. Probably a band like Nile,
who we have played with before and have a good buzz going around about them.

MB - Do you think death metal will ever die?

CP - Hell no, not as long as brutal motherfuckers keep
supporting bands by buying albums, coming to shows, etc.

MB - Is focusing on Fleshtized the only reason Garth is leaving the band?

CP -That's the reason he gave us, yes. There may be other, less significant reasons but
if so he didn't address them so therefore it's not an issue. Being in two bands was stressful I suppose.

MB - What got you into metal and even more specifically death metal?

CP - The first metal band I got into was Metallica, and then when I was in 8th grade
I heard the first Deicide album, and Cannibal Corpse Butchered at Birth, and I basically
figured out that death metal was where its at. The more underground stuff I heard,
the more I started getting into it.

MB - What equipment do you use?

CP - I play a Pearl Export 8pc, with Sabian cymbals and I use an Alesis DM5.

MB - How did the band form?

CP - Zac and I started jamming together back in the Spring of 96,
and we went through several bass players and vocalists before we finally
got together with Garth in the Summer of 98. Then we hooked up with Lance in the Winter of 98.

MB - Who came up with the title of the new record "Disease of Worthlessness."?

CP - Haha, once again, my brother Kris came up with that title. Not to seem like he comes up with everything,
just that and the band name. Its coincidental, cause I don't live with him and hardly ever talk to him.

MB - Who will be Garth's replacement on bass?

CP - We are trying out this girl named Leslie Keeble, she's actually very good,
she plays 5-string fretless, just like Garth. She also plays fingerstyle which is a definite plus.

MB - Does the band plan on playing many shows for the new album?

CP - We hope to play at least 2-3 shows a month, which is about what we average.
I know we need to play more but unless we play regionally, there aren't many
local places to play. We have played a lot of killer shows in the Southeast,
like Mobile, Fort Walton, Gulfport, and Atlanta, among others.

MB -  Will the set list for the Atlanta Deathfest 99 include any older songs or just stuff from the new album?

CP - It will probably be most of the songs off of the CD, plus we still play "Eyesore"
off of the demo and we may have a new one or two by then.

MB -  Do you watch many horror movies and if so what are some of your favorites?

CP - Um, I can't really comment on that because I don't watch a whole lot of horror movies.
I like that movie Tremors, its so ridiculous its funny.

MB - What are the bands plans following the release of "Disease of Worthlessness."?

CP - We plan to record a 5-song EP in the Winter showcasing some of our new songs
which will be much more varied than our current material.

MB - What can fans expect from Spinecast in the future?

CP - More brutality, more speed, more ass kicking!! Thanks for the interview Matt!!
